The Dream Job That Isn’t
While I’ve been working in sports and entertainment for thirty years, with at least 20 of those years touching golf in some form or fashion, I hadn’t really gotten too deep into the operations side of the business until CourseIQ. I, like a lot of others, figured the role of the GM was glamorous, schmoozing up the members or guests, getting out to play a few times a week, and working on a golfer’s tan.
Not so. The burnout rate of GMs, Club Pros and other venue mangers has been at an all-time high. Why? The pay is not horrible. But the lifestyle is. That part I could relate significantly to coming from the sports marketing and agency world.
Shane Ryan from Golf Digest has nailed this insight. It is a major reason CourseIQ exists. If all of the platforms out there today did everything across the board, then maybe Gabriel (in the story) wouldn’t be quitting to just take an ‘ol J.O.B.
GMs - in the famous words of Jerry McGuire, help us help you. Tell us where we can help - we are continuing to interview GMs and other venue managers as part of our MVP rollout. We’d love to ensure we are making your job easier.
See you on the tee box!
